Protecting Antique Photographs

There is an almost limitless supply of old photographs that have been taken a long time ago. They are often badly damaged, often the colors are fading or even running, the picture may be badly cracked and bending. It is quite amazing when you find an antique photograph that is in very good condition, these have either been successfully restored or have been kept in good conditions for most of their life.

It is very exclusive to discover a high quality antique photograph nowadays. There are many different types of antique photograph collectors there are those who collect them in order to restore them to their former glory and those who just like to keep them and those who buy then to sell them on.

If you enjoy the collection of these various photographs it is key that you make sure that you store them in good conditions in order to preserve them. If you have an important sentimental photo collection it is important that you take care of these worthy things.

Luckily however in these modern times there have been many technological advances that make it a lot easier to restore antique photographs and to preserve them.

It is extremely damaging to store photographs in sunlight, the light makes the colors fade and eventually run into each other. It is advisable to store them in a photograph album that you store in a dark place for example a wardrobe in order to keep them in good condition.

It is also recommend that you store them in plastic wallets that are large enough for you to put your photos in without forcing them into it. That way you will protect them from moisture in the air better than if they are just left out in the open, you can also place them in frames but make sure that they are not in direct sunlight if you plan to display them.
